What is AirSCAN?

AirSCAN is a very convenient
package used for finding and labeling active frequencies, counting hits
in frequency ranges, saving and loading previous searches, managing your
scanners banks, counting hits on your existing scanner banks A-J, and using
the new "extended banks" A-Z.
-
Frequencies found via Airscan can be labeled with a one character code
while the search is going on- i.e. P- Police, M- Medical, A- Air. (30
character alpha labeling coming soon.) One purpose of this program
is to scan and catalog active frequencies. It scans in the background or
foreground for as long as you want to get an accurate hit count for the
selected range. When a hit is encountered, the software checks up and down
3 steps, and seeks that frequency with the strongest signal using the hardwares
signal strength meter.
-
Once a frequency hit list is generated, you can move on to scanning only
those active frequencies you have found, to refine your results
by further labeling and locking out of useless frequencies. All without
changing any channels that reside in your scanner. Results are saved in
two formats- as a .TXT file for easy imports and as a .AIR file for use
in AirSCAN.

AirSCAN is able to use "extended
banks" stored on your computer. These banks are called A-Z and have
a title that shows up on screen. Each "extended bank" holds 80 channels.
This allows you to increase the number of frequencies you can access beyond
the 300 channel capacity of the scanner- for a grand total of 2380 channels.
The extended banks come preprogrammed with some common frequencies such
as railroads, ambulances, aircraft, FRS radios and more. These can easily
be erased and changed to your own frequencies.

AirSCAN can monitor your existing
scanner banks for hits as well. Ever wonder how many of your frequencies
you have entered into your scanner are really active enough to keep?

AirSCAN has a "Bank Manager"
which allows you work on the channels that are stored in your scanners
300 memories. It allows you to swap banks, erase banks, save banks to the
computer, and load banks to the scanner. Files are saved as .CHN files
to keep your frequencies safe.

AirSCAN runs in DOS and
Win95/98. The application can run full screened, windowed, or minimized
while you do other things. AirSCAN is
a DOS based program, but don't let that put you off, it is quite powerful-
plus it can be used on more operating systems than a Windows 32-bit program.

-
NOTE- AirSCAN REQUIRES the scanner
be on COM1 or COM2 at this time. Also, it does not work for tracking trunked
systems at this time- other than finding active frequencies. Trunking features
may be added in future versions of AirSCAN.
And your still in charge of CTCSS tones. See Softrol
FREEWARE Distribution Site for help on automatically finding CTCSS
tones.
